BTC – DVD QUALITY VIDEO... OVER THE NET

Most video you find on the internet is the ‘streaming’ variety – and many of us will have experienced the glitches common with the format. As BTC Director Iain Sturrock explains, ‘Telecoms networks were never really designed to cope with video. In most cases, users prefer to download video in the background rather than suffer the hiccups associated with streaming. This is where our application really scores.’

BTC – Branded Televisual Channels Ltd – have developed their own software which can provide DVD quality video over the internet. A Worldwide patent search has shown the system to be unique, effectively making this the best quality video available on the internet.

So how does it work and what is it used for? ‘Our first focus is to promote it as an advertising tool for businesses’ says Iain. ‘What better way to send a regular audio/video mailshot to your prospects and customers?’

Users download the software to their PC – a quick process – which automatically adds a branded icon to the desktop. Double-clicking will launch the application via a secure channel dedicated to registered users only and identified by the unique security of each PC.

A simple, user-friendly electronic programming guide appears, detailing video available to view. Users select a program from the list and whilst the video downloads in the background, they are free to continue working. The system notifies them automatically once ready to show the video. As new content is added to the server, users receive automatic notification.

The system also collects anonymous information from each PC, giving advertisers 100% feedback regarding their viewers’ preferences.

Iain adds ‘as a way of establishing an ongoing relationship between business and customer, this system has vast potential. It can be used as a contact management tool, a prospect relationship tool – the possibilities are huge. It also works effectively over dial-up systems as well as broadband’.
